Eagles look at adding a wideout?
[picappgallerysingle id="7059518"]
The Philadelphia Eagles recently held a personal workout of WR Rod Winsdor of the AFL team, the Arizona Rattlers. Winsdor holds many of the AFL receiving records. Winsdor is a large framed receiver at 6’2″ 205 pounds. This is sort of an unexpected move for the Eagles as the receiver position is one with a lot of depth for Philadelphia. The Eagles also drafted and recently signed University of Florida product, Riley Cooper.
Charles Barkley sporting a Redskins jersey?
[picappgallerysingle id="5300519"]You remember Philadelphia’s own rotund rounder baller, Charles Barkley, right? Well it seems as if he’s a Donovan McNabb fan, regardless of the jersey he wears. Barkley told NBC Washington that he wants to come to the Linc when the Redskins come to town, sporting a Redskins jersey. Oh, he hopes it’s snowing when they come to visit.
Well now, isn’t that special. Here is a portion of what Barkley had to say,
“I’m a Washington Redskins fan now, because y’all have never treated Donovan the way he deserved, with the respect and credit he deserved…..I’m pulling for the Washington Redskins from now on. And I asked Donovan, I want a Donovan McNabb Redskins jersey, too….
“Donovan McNabb is my guy. That guy’s been a great player and a great person in Philadelphia sports. I understand trades is part of the business, I just wish he had gotten the credit and respect that he deserved there. Yes, I’m pulling for the Washington Redskins….Not only that, I’m gonna wear a Redskins jersey to Lincoln Financial Field. And I hope it’s snowing, and we can make snowballs, and I can throw ‘em right back at em, too. I can’t wait. I can’t wait to come. I’m gonna wear my Donovan McNabb jersey.”
Eagles TE Brent Celek a Bengals fan?
[picappgallerysingle id="1862437"]
Philadelphia Eagles TE Brent Celek had a great season last year and recently stopped by with the folks at the nflplayers.com website to talk some offseason and some football. Celek spoke about growing up a Cincinnati Bengals fan but said he’s just happy to be playing in the NFL and loves Philly.
It didn’t take long for the questions to come into the live chat to ask about Kevin Kolb and Donovan McNabb. Celek responded, “Kevin and Donovan are two totally different players. Based on how he did last year, we should be okay. As a team, we’ll hit a few bumps, just like in any season, but as long as we stick together, we’ll be ok”.
According to a poll conducted on the site during the live chat, 88% of respondents said that Celek should be the top rated TE heading into the 2010 season and 82% commented that Celek is the most underrated TE in the league. 57% also said the Eagles will win the Super Bowl this year, so the crowd was a bit partisan as expected.
I do think Celek is one of the best up and coming TE’s in the league right now and should benefit if QB Kevin Kolb struggles this year. The number of quality fantasy producing TE’s has exploded in the NFL over the past few years. While Celek is definitely on the rise, I can’t consider him the best tight end in the NFL at this time, however, that might be the case in 2-3 years depending on Kolb’s development.
Eagles’ Kolb confident
[picappgallerysingle id="6208761"]
The Philadelphia Eagles have a new quarterback for the first time in over a decade, Kevin Kolb will be under center for the 2010 version of the Eagles. The 25 year old quarterback has only a handful of starts under his belt, but the team obviously has confidence in Kolb’s ability, having traded Donovan McNabb in the offseason and then signing Kolb to a long term deal.
Kolb tells nj.com, “That’s a driven force for me and it gives me more energy and more emotion to make this things right. That’s my number 1 focus, going to a Super Bowl and proving everyone right. I’m not trying to prove anyone wrong. I’m trying to prove this organization right for making this move. I know there are a lot of expectations. When you get an extension and you get the starting quarterback position, and the franchise, regardless of where you’re at, there’s a lot of pressure and responsibility. I understand all that”.
The article quotes an AFC personnel man as saying, “You’re darned right they gambled, especially trading him (McNabb) in the division. That’s a gutsy move on their part”.
Personally, I thought McNabb should have been retained for the last year of his contract. With that being said, the Eagles still would have had a very young defense with of without McNabb heading into this year. I do think that fact does put more pressure on Kolb. However, if the Eagles had no intention of re-signing McNabb after this season, they why not get something of value for him in return?
The trade itself would only really be a huge victory for the Redskins unless they were to advance to the Super Bowl this season or in the next two if McNabb inks a longer term deal with Washington. Is that possible? Perhaps down the road, but not very likely this season. The Redskins have issues at running back and wide receiver. Ironic for McNabb I think, he always asked for more playmakers in Philadelphia, finally gets them and they trade him off to a team with very little receiving talent.
Kolb has not played for an entire season and we’ll have to see how he responds once he has opposing defenses scheming to stop him for 16 weeks. And I just wonder how the Philly fans will react if the Eagles struggle this season.
Commish coming to Eagles camp
[picappgallerysingle id="3781508"]
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is starting his annual visits to team training camps as they are set to open starting for some teams next week. Goodell will be using John Madden’s bus for a portion of the tour. His camp visits open with the New Orleans Saints on August 2nd and then he will be attending the Philadelphia Eagles camp the next day, August 3rd. From there he moves to visit both the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins camps the following day.
Philadelphia Eagles Madden 2011 player ratings
[picappgallerysingle id="9118603"]
The Philadelphia Eagles Madden 2011 player ratings have been released and there are a few surprises.
DeSean Jackson came in as the highest ranked WR with an overall ranking of 91.
Leonard Weaver was the highest rated running back with an overall rating of 90 and LeSean McCoy was only given a 79 with Mike Bell receiving a 77.
The surprising rating was for QB Kevin Kolb, an overall rating of 75.
Newcomer Ernie Sims was the highest rated LB with an 83.
DE Trent Cole was the highest rated defensive player with a 95 followed by Asante Samuel with 94.

Eagles sign Cooper
[picappgallerysingle id="7011616"]
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed WR Riley Cooper. The Eagles had 13 picks in this April’s draft and the signing of Cooper leaves the Eagles with only Brandon Graham and Nate Allen left to sign.
Cooper played at the University of Florida where he made 28 career starts.
Who Exactly Restricted Vick’s Travel?
[picappgallerysingle id="726405"]
Philadelphia Eagle’s QB Michael Vick’s crisis manager, Judy Smith, told members of the media that Vick’s travel has been at the discretion of probation officials, and since Vick failed to show up to two events this weekend, there has to be a few questions asked.
The Winnipeg Free Press reported that spokespersons for both Vick’s football camp and charity golf tourney were notified very late that he would not be attending.
Cornelius Corprew, director of the football camp told the media, “They called early, like two o’clock in the morning, telling us he’s not coming. And we couldn’t speak to him. It was through one of his associates. We’re not crazy. No state agency is communicating at two o’clock in the morning that he’s not allowed to come. I think that was a selfish act”.
Corprew said Vick was paid 6,000.00 to attend and those attending the camp paid 175.00 each and were promised that they would have photos and autographs for the entry fee.
Vick then dissed his charity golf event as well. Rema Miller told the media regarding his absence from his charity golf event, “He was coming at the time, but unfortunately he had to go meet with Philly for a team meeting. He did send a message that he hates he could not be here, but he appreciates everybody coming out to support the charities”.
Okay, two events covered by a “crisis manager” for Vick, Judy Smith. The youth football camp is contacted at 2am? And Vick who has attached his name to each event can’t personally pick up the phone and say I’m not going to be able to attend? He misses his golf event because of a team meeting with the Eagles? Training camp does not start until the 29th of July. What was he discussing in a team meeting? Whether or not he’d be throwing more than 13 passes in 2010?
This whole deal stinks, and I stand by my opinion that Vick will not be the backup quarterback on the Eagles when the season starts in September.
Eagles in 1st and the Cowboys finish last?
[picappgallerysingle id="2385677"]
Are the Philadelphia Eagles poised to win the NFC East? Well, according to the Football Outsiders, they are, and the Dallas Cowboys are poised for a bad season. Football Outsiders publishes an annual guide to the greatest game on earth, and they have force fed their computers with all their data and seem to think that the Eagles are positioned to win the NFC East.
One Cowboys blogger seems to poise the question as to whether or not the Cowboys should be worried about the ratings, which show the Eagles winning the NFC East and the Redskins getting one of the wildcard spots. The Dallas blogger shows the rankings from Football Outsider’s work right here.
Now while FO show’s the Eagles could collect 9 wins or more in 2010, I’m not taking that much stock into this analysis. If you look at the entire NFL as a whole, the same breakdown shows the Houston Texans hovering around 6 wins, the Chiefs winning the AFC West, the Cardinals repeating as division champs in the NFC West with Matt Leinart at QB, and the Buccaneers winning 8 while Detroit is slated for three wins.
9 wins for the Eagles might be a reasonable estimate, but Kevin Kolb will struggle in 2010 and the Eagles defense is filled with youth, this is a team which is undergoing a rebuilding process without ever actually saying they are rebuilding. I also don’t thing that 9 wins will determine the winner of the NFC East.
It’s always interesting to read these types of breakdowns before the season starts, but when you input all that hard data into a computer for analysis, regarding football, all you get is a glorified weather forecast and there’s a 40% chance it could rain tomorrow.
Vick’s travel restricted
According to NBC-10′s John Clark, probation officials have now told Mike Vick his is not allowed to leave the state of Pennsylvania.
Vick missed his Baltimore football camp and his golf tourney in Atlanta last week but failed to appear at either event.
Veterans are scheduled to attend Eagles training camp which starts on July 29th.
