Philadelphia Eagles extend Kolb
The Philadelphia Eagles made QB Kevin Kolb a very happy man this afternoon. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Eagles have extended the contract of Kolb. Kolb receives a 1 year extension for 12.25 million and 100% of the money is guaranteed.
Kolb, 25, will assume the starting quarterback duties this year with Donovan McNabb now in Washington.
Philadelphia Eagles call the cops
According to reports, the Philadelphia Eagles have called law enforcement for help. The Linc can be tough but now not only will there be cops on the sidelines, but possibly on the field as well. NFP.com has reported that the Eagles have signed punter Ken Parrish to a three year contract.
Parrish has flirted with an NFL career with a few clubs but most recently found employment as a police office with the Stroudsburg Area Regional Police Department.
So, as Parrish appears set to acquire the punting duties for the Eagles, is anyone calling Mark Wahlberg for the remake of Invincible part II? First a bartender, now a policeman.
Youth movement for the Philadelphia Eagles
Don’t tell anyone, but the Philadelphia Eagles are rebuilding. Coaches rarely use THAT “R” word, they say they are re-stocking or re-loading, but very seldom do they use the word, rebuilding. It sounds so draconian. It sounds as if everything has imploded and you are starting over from scratch. I prefer to look at it in a more optimistic light, in the manner that you are recreating what has worked.
Kafka means Garcia not coming to Philly
[picappgallerysingle id="2508254"]With their last pick in the 4th round, the Eagles selected Northwestern QB Michael Kafka. Kafka will be a project at the position but he does have NFL quality arm strength. At 6′ 3″ 225 pounds, Kafka passed for 3400 yards and 16 tds last year.
Drafting Kafka may signal now that the Eagles are moving away from re-signing Jeff Garcia as a back up for starter Kevin Kolb. There were some rumors before the draft that the Eagles would try to trade Michael Vick , but this move now makes it appear that Vick will be the backup next year as the Eagles try to work on the development of Kafka.
At #37, Eagles select,
DB Nate Allen, Safety, University of South Florida.
Eagles move up and select..
DE Brandon Graham Michigan.
Philly adds a LB
In a three way trade today between the Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles, the Eagles have obtained former 1st round draft choice LB Ernie Sims.
[picappgallerysingle id="2381991"]
Sims, who was a former #9 overall first pick in the first round, is in the final year of his contract and his play has decreased significantly over the past 2 seasons. The 6’0″ 230 pound Florida State product was once compared by several scouts to be perhaps the second coming of LB Derrick Brooks but has greatly underachieved.
NFL.com correspondent Jason LaCanfora has reported that the Eagles are not discussing any contract extension with Sims, so it appears that he will have one year to prove worthy of a contract extension. Perhaps a change of scenery will do Sims good, he was a very good talent in college playing for Florida State.
In exchange for Ernie Sims, the Eagles sent a 5th round pick to Denver.

Jeff Garcia could return……again.

A Philadelphia television station is reporting that the Eagles have had numerous talks with former QB Jeff Garcia.
Donovan McNabb traded
[picappgallerysingle id="7504514"]
Well, as many of you are looking over the internet for your sports news this Monday morning, the McNabb haters of the world must be rejoicing. He’s finally gone. He was booed when he was drafted, he never seemed to win over the fickle fans of Philadelphia and now he plays for a division rival.
Yeah, he was a terrible quarterback. All he did in his 12 years was throw for nearly 33,000 yards, 216 touchdowns, in 2004 he became the first ever NFL quarterback to throw for over 30 touchdowns and have fewer than 10 interceptions, he went to the Pro Bowl 6 times, 5 times to the NFC Championship game, and he owns most of the Eagles passing records. Yeah, he sucked.
Ironic that McNabb finally got the offensive weapons he so desired and once they were in place, he was shown the door and Kevin Kolb gets them. Many think Kolb will be the key to get the Eagles to the next level. It won’t happen in 2010. It’s easier being a spot starter or the quarterback when your opponents don’t know a lot about you. Does Kolb have potential, certainly. Reid knows this or else McNabb wouldn’t have been traded, but we’ll see how Kolb performs next year by about week 8 when defenses can track his tendencies and defend against them.

The Eagles went 11-5 this year and earned a wildcard berth. The 2010 version of the Eagles are going to be a different team. 10 players from 2009 are gone including RB Brian Westbrook, G Shawn Andrews, WR Kevin Curtis, WR Reggie Brown, DE Darren Howard, LB Chris Gocong and CB Sheldon Brown.
Well, good luck Donovan in your new venture. It sure will be interesting to see the reception he receives on his first visit to Philly in a Redskins uniform. I’m sure some will cheer, but most will boo. Then again, Donovan most likely wouldn’t have it any other way.
